Tag question অর্থ হচ্ছে প্রশ্নজুড়ে দেওয়া।
মূলত কথোপকথন এর সময় বাক্যের শেষ যে সমর্থন সূচক প্রশ্ন সংযোগ করা হয় তাকে Tag question।
Example:-
Habiba is a good girl, isn’t she?
(হাবিবা ভালো মেয়ে, তাই না?)
এখানে বাক্যের শেষ কমার পরে isn’t he বা তাই না হচ্ছে সর্মথক সূচক প্রশ্ন।
More example:
He plays badminton, doesn’t he?
(সে ব্যাডমিন্টন খেলে, তাই না?)
He played badminton, didn’t he?
(সে ব্যাডমিন্টন খেলেছে, তাই না?)
They played badminton, didn’t’ they?
(তারা ব্যাডমিন্টন খেলেছে, তাই না?)
Note: verb সাথে s বা es থাকলে question tag doesn’t হবে, verb past indefinite tense হলে question tag didn’t হবে।
Tag question করার সময় Positive statement (হ্যাঁ বোধক বাক্য) থাকলে Negative tag আর Negative statement (না বোধক বাক্য) থাকলে Positive tag বসে।
Example:
He is going to Dhaka, isn’t he?
He isn’t going to Dhaka, is he?
Negative tag question গঠন করতে Auxiliary verb সমূহ সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়।tag question rules
Do not = don’t
has not = hasn’t
Does not = doesn’t
Have not = haven’t
Did not = didn’t
Had not = hadn’t
am not = aren’t
Can not = can’t
Is not = isn’t
Could not = couldn’t
Are not= aren’t
May not = mayn’t
Was not= wasn’t
Might not = mightn’t
Were not= weren’t
Must not = mustn’t
will not = won’t
Ought not = oughtn’t
Shall not = shan’t
Need not = needn’t
Tag question করার সহজ নিয়ম-
এখানে Tag question Rules এর সকল রুল সুন্দর ও সহজভাবে আলোচনা করা হলো।
Rule-1
Auxiliary verb যুক্ত sentence কে Tag question করতে auxiliary verb ব্যবহৃত হয়।
এক্ষেত্রে মূল sentence positive হলে Auxiliary verb সাথে not যুক্ত করতে হয় আর মূল sentence negative হলে Auxiliary verb টি positive রূপে বসে।
Example:
He isn’t a Doctor, is he?
Ramim was playing football, wasn’t he?
Rule-2
Auxiliary verb ছাড়া main verb যুক্ত Sentence ক্ষেত্রে Tag হিসাবে don’t/ didn’t / doesn’t হয়। এক্ষেত্রে statement এর verb এর subject ও tense অনুযায়ী বসে।
Example
He lives in London, doesn’t he?
He ate ice-cream, didn’t he?
They go to Cox’s Bazar, don’t they?
Rule-3
Exclamatory sentence এর ক্ষেত্রে Sentence noun হলে তা tag pronoun রূপে বসে।
Example
How beautiful a girl is, isn’t she?
What a nice bird is, isn’t it?
Rule-4
Model Auxiliary verb এর Tag question করার ক্ষেত্রে model auxiliary verb কে ব্যবহার করে Tag করতে হয়।
Example:
We must do the homework, mustn’t we?
You should read this paper, shouldn’t you?
Rule-5
Tag question করার সময় statement এ যদি need অথবা needs verb ব্যবহৃত হয়। তবে Tag question এ need ও needs এর পরিবর্তে don’t ও doesn’t হয়।
Example:
She needs a flower, doesn’t she?
I need a motorcar, don’t I?
Rule-6
Complex sentence এ tag question করার ক্ষেত্রে main/principal clause এর subject অনুযায়ী tag question করতে হয়।
Example:
If you buy a book, you will achieve knowledge, won’t you?
Rule-7
Compound sentence কে tag question করার সময় 2nd Clause এর subject ও verb অনুযায়ী tag question করতে হয়।
Sumaiya has a garden but there isn’t any flower tree, is it?
Imperative sentence এর Tag question
Rule-8
Imperative sentence এ order বা advice বুঝালে tag question এ will you/won’t ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Don’t go to play ground, will you?
Close the book, won’t you?
Rule-9
Imperative sentence এ Request বুঝালে tag question can you/could you ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Rule-10
Imperative sentence Let her/Let him/ Let them/ Let Karim দিয়ে যদি অনুমতি প্রকাশ করা হয় তাহলে Tag question এ will you ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
Let him go to work, will you?
Rule-11
Imperative sentence এ Let’s/ Let us দ্বারা যদি প্রস্তাব বুঝায় তাহলে tag question এ shall we ব্যবহৃত হবে।
Example:
Let us open the book, shall we?
Rule-12
As well as, and not, with, together with, along with, accompanied by, in addition to ইত্যাদি দ্বারা দুইটি Noun ও pronoun যুক্ত হলে ১ম Noun টি অনুযায়ী Tag question হয়।
Example:
He along with me has done the work, hasn’t he?
Rule-13
Not only…….but also, Not……but, Either……or, Neither…….nor এবং or দ্বারা দুইটি সাবজেক্ট যুক্ত হলে দ্বিতীয় subject অনুযায়ী tag question হয়।
Example:
Not only Shamim but also Rakib is my friend, isn’t he?
Rule-14
Everybody, Nobody, anybody ইত্যাদি থাকলে Tag question এ They ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
Everyone likes him, don’t they?
Note: এখানে main statement verb সাথে s বা es হলেও Tag question they থাকায় doesn’t না হয়ে don’t হয়েছে।
Rule-15
something, Nothing, anything, everything এসকল বাক্যে Subject হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হলে Tag question এর subject হিসাবে it ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
Nothing is impossible, isn’t it?
Rule-16
Most of you, all of you, noun of you এসকল বাক্যে Subject হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হলে Tag question এর subject হিসাবে you ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
All of you know the name of Nazrul, don’t you?
Rule-17
Most of them, noun of them, all of them এসকল বাক্যে Subject হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হলে Tag question এর subject হিসাবে they ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
Most of them are going to Cox’s Bazar, aren’t they?
Rule-18
দেশের নামের ক্ষেত্রে tag question subject she হয়।
Bangladesh is the most beautiful country in South-Asia, isn’t she?
Rule-19
Moon, train, ship, river, ferry, earth এগুলো Subject হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হলে Tag question এর subject হিসাবে she ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Example:
The river is beautiful place, isn’t she?
The train is going to Chittagong, isn’t she?
Rule-20
Tag question করার সময় subject হিসাবে this অথবা that থাকলে tag এর subject ‘ it ‘ হয় আর these বা those থাকলে tag এর subject হবে they.
This is a storybook, isn’t it?

Rule- 21
বাক্যের শুরুতে Adjective এর আগে The বসলে tag question subject হিসাবে they বসে।
Example:
The poor are always feeling sorrow, aren’t they?
Rule-22
বাক্য one subject হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হলে tag question one এর পরিবর্তে he হয়।
Example:
One wants to work in one’s office, doesn’t he?
Rule-23
Few, little, rarely, scarcely, hardly, seldom, never, nothing, nobody, noun এসকল negative শব্দে বাক্যো থাকলে tag question সবসময় হ্যাঁ বোধক হবে।
